According to a rough estimate, around eight out of ten cases of eczema take lace, before a child attains the age of five years. In fact, many a children get affected, even before they are a year old. However, in case of most of the children, suffering from this disease, the disease gets cleared up or substantially gets better as they get older. It is also estimated that, more than five out of ten cases of young children suffering from atopic eczema, clears up with the condition, by the time they get to the age of eleven years and in more than six out of ten cases, it gets cleared up by the age of sixteen years.
The condition is particularly worse in case of children, where severe scratching might cause sleepless nights as well as difficulty while concentrating in the school. In case the parents of a child are suffering from atopic eczema, then there is a relatively high probability of the child also developing the condition. As a matter of fact, around six out of ten cases of children with a parent, suffering from atopic eczema also have that condition. In the cases, in which both the parents have atopic eczema, the condition shows up in eight out of every ten children.
Preschool children suffering from atopic eczema are much more probable to be suffering from behavioral problems than that in case of children who do not suffer from this condition. Apart from this, they also tend to be more likely to be much more dependant on the parents in comparison to children who do not suffer from this condition.
In the school, children with eczema might experience bullying or teasing. As it is, any sort of bullying may prove to be quite traumatic as well as difficult for a child. He/she might find it very much tough to deal with such a situation. You might find that your child has become quiet as well as withdrawn. Do make sure that you have explained the condition to your child’s teacher. You should also encourage your child that he/she should tell you about their feelings.
Atopic eczema might also cause sleep related disorders in case of children. According to a rough estimate, around six out of ten children suffering from atopic eczema tend to suffer from sleep related disorders.
As it is, the most important aspect in case of atopic eczema in children, is that it is the responsibility of the parents as well as the teachers to see to it, that the kid does not feel outcast or left out in school.
